|
| | - GENERAL
- Games shall be 6 innings or 1½ hours long. No inning should start after 1 ½ hours of playing time. Innings in progress after 1½ hours should be completed.
- Each inning shall consist of 3 outs or one time through the batting order, which ever comes first (for each team). If one team has 9 players and one team has 13 players, then each team should bat up to 13 batters per inning.
- Unless otherwise designated the home team is the first team listed on the schedule. The home team is responsible for setting up the bases and provides a batting tee and the game ball. The game ball must be a Level 1 Tri-Flex safety ball provided by LMYA.
- BATTING
- All players shall be in the batting order. The batting order is 'set' prior to the start of play and cannot be changed during the game.
- The team at bat provides an adult pitcher and a catcher. The adults should not participate in fielding the ball while it is still in play.
- Batters and base runners must wear helmets. On deck batters may not take practice swings before stepping up to the plate.
- Each batter shall get 5 pitches to hit the ball. There are no strikeouts or walks. After 5 pitches the ball should be hit off a tee. This rule can be enforced loosely; however, the game should be kept moving for the sake of the other players.
- Runners cannot take leads off the bases. Runners can leave the base when the batter makes contact with the ball. Base-stealing is not permitted; sliding is not recommended, except to avoid a collision with another player.
- Runners cannot advance on overthrows, errors or wild pitches.
- If an inning ends with the last batter, then the final out can be either a force out at first (or any other base), according to standard rules, or a put out at home plate by having the defensive player with the ball touch home before the next runner crosses the plate. Any runner scoring before the put out qualifies as a run scored.
- FIELDING
- The home team is in the field first.
- An adult umpire should stand in the field and determine fair/foul balls, out/safe calls on the base paths, and when the ball is out of play (i.e. overthrows, errors).
- All players can play in the field at once, as follows:
- one player next to the adult pitcher
- one player next to the adult catcher
- five infielders other than the pitcher
- remaining players are outfielders
- An outfielder may not make an unassisted out at any base.
- A fielder must yield the base path to a runner, unless the fielder is making a play for the ball or has the ball and is making a play on the runner. In those cases the runner may stop or run around the fielder to avoid collision.
